The DFW Wildlife Coalition Hotline thanks Oxbow Animal Rescue Grant for supporting our educational initiative to provide wildlife rehabilitators with professional wildlife courses from the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council. Every year, our hotline receives thousands of calls regarding wildlife encounters and emergencies, and the number of calls is increasing as our communities grow. We refer orphaned, sick and injured animals to wildlife rehabilitators, many of whom are working with very few public donations. Our organization depends on donations and grants, and we are grateful for the opportunity to use these resources to provide valuable training to our local wildlife rehabilitators to help save more wildlife.
The DFW Wildlife Coalition is the proud recipient of a 2024 grant from the Environmental Fund of Texas to support its “Mange Treatment in Place” program. This unique program enables treatment in the field for bobcats and coyotes who are afflicted with the parasitic mite that causes mange, a painful and sometimes fatal skin disease. Trained Mange Team volunteers deliver medicated bait that eradicates the mange mite and provides protection for 90 days, giving the animal the opportunity to recover while its wild family structure is kept intact.
