The Barn Swallow Reunite
"I just wanted to thank you for your
volunteer hotline...My husband and I have a barn swallow nest over our
front entry. On May 24, we woke up to discover the nest had fallen
sometime during the night or early morning, along with the five
nestlings that were in it. Two had died, but three were still
alive but in obvious distress. After putting the survivors in a
small box with some grass-like material, we put the box on a tall step
ladder, on the porch. However, the parents weren't figuring it out
where their babies were (they kept revisiting the original nest site)
and we were concerned about losing the nestlings.
"I found your web site, and called your
hotline. I was assured that we were on the right track with what
we had already done, and [the volunteer] suggested we simply duct tape
the box to the place where the nest was originally. If that didn't
do the trick, [the volunteer] gave me the name and number of Rogers
Rescue, who would be able to take in the babies.
"We taped the box up there, and within a
few hours the adults were feeding the nestlings again...[they] are now
happily flying around our property with the adults."

The Baby Bunny
"Thank you so much for helping me help a
baby bunny who couldn't help himself! We kept him throughout the
day in a carrier in a quiet place. I put grass in with him but
couldn't tell if he ate anything . We put the opened carrier in the
flower bed area of our home which has quite a few places where he can
seek cover. When we checked it before we went to bed he was gone.
Both times I called the volunteers were very helpful. It was
wonderful to have someone tell me what to do. Sometimes when we try to
help a wild animal we might actually make matters worse, so it is great
to have a place to go for help. We just wanted to give that baby
the best chance at survival."

Cedar Waxwing Rescue
"Thank you for your info - it was of
great help. I picked up two beautiful mates (Cedar Waxwing).
One was sitting in the middle lane on Harry Hines. As I turned
the car around and was turning left to come back - she was still
sitting there. I then saw her mate fly down to sit wiht her
and he was hit by a car. I sped thru the u-turn and blocked
the first two lanes with my car running . Jumped out with a cup...I
picked him up - she was scared and went walking to the curb, jumped
up and ran through the grass...grabbed her... I found a nice
bag to put them in and could kind of close. Called your
organization, very quick to return call. You recommended a
Bird Sanctuary in Wilmer. They were open and I was able to
drive them there for medical help. They repaired his broken
wing, but I don't know what she needed. I hope they were able
to help her as well. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!
